Surgical Extractions

Your dentist will evaluate your situation and make the recommendation about whether a tooth can be saved or should be extracted. If the extraction is deemed complex by your dentist you would be referred to an oral & maxillofacial surgeon because of their advanced surgical training. Teeth are extracted, or pulled, for several reasons. A few of those reasons may be:

Damaged Tooth: Your dentist will always try to save a damaged tooth if at all possible but if the tooth is too damaged, extraction may be recommended.

Orthodontics: An orthodontist may recommend a tooth be extracted to create more room for the teeth that are being moved into place by braces.

Wisdom Teeth: Also called third molars, are commonly removed because most people do not have enough space in their mouth. Gum irritation, pain, swelling, infection and decay are signs the tooth needs to be removed.
